1. This week I got to give a talk on conversion and it went pretty well! I think It's funny with a small audience you can see those that are paying close attention and it looked like a few were zoned in.. but I learned a lot about the topic and it turned out the reason I gave the talk was for a young man who is struggling but just to my luck he was out of town! But I think it went well I learned that conversion is not an over night thing we grow our conversion through the little simple things by simple obedience we grow stronger!
2. We taught Cornbread twice this week and had an awesome lesson last Monday! We read 1 Samuel 17 and talked about the Goliaths in our life. He has had some really tough trials right now. but we related him to the story and put him in David's shoes and he really saw what we were trying to get out. He liked the analogy and really tried to trust God a lot more in his life! He is awesome but is struggling with tobacco still which is one of those goliaths, but he is determined to be baptized the 3 of May!
3. We got to see our favorite redneck, Steven, and sat down with him . The member who gave us the referral said to be his friend then he will take the lessons, so we did that. We sat around and talked about life for a long time and shared a few scriptures but he is awesome and has lots of potential so I'm very excited to see what will happen. The crazy thing is he is only 4 months older than me! He also told us that he wants us over to have a cookout so we didn't complain at all!
4. We had a meeting down in mobile this week and it was pretty fun, but a lot of good stuff was said. We talked about the stripling warriors in the Book of Mormon and how we are very similar to them! In their first battle they were a decoy for the Lamanite armies, they did their job great and ran an excellent diversion but then they had to decide if they wanted to go back and help protect their other armies. They decided to go back and help the Nephrite army that is almost destroyed at this point, they come in and save hundreds of lives because of their decision to go the extra mile! They were truly blessed because of that! That is what we have to do as missionaries go that extra mile and help others, then we will save lives!
5. I got to work for the day in Mobile and it was weird! Traffic does not exist in Monroe unless there is a deer crossing the road! So it was weird to be in a big city and I was super claustrophobic which odd since I came from LA! I'm slowly turning into a country boy! But as much as I love the country I don't think I will ever be fully converted because I don't want to go 60 miles to get groceries!
6. I had an awesome study about God and Christ and man! They are just great! They always love us and I'm grateful for that love and what an example it is to me! I can only try my best to be like that!
7. A great quote by Jeffery R Holland from this most recent conference it talks about the need for obedience and commandments. it says " They know full well the road leading to the promised land flowing with milk and honey out of necessity runs by mount Sinai flowing with thou shalts and thou shalt nots!" Commandments and obedience is what gets us to where we want to go they are not annoyances, but helpful guidance!
8. I said bye to a really good friend today, Elder Davis is going home this week. I met Elder Davis my very fist day as a missionary! He was the guy sitting next to me on the van to my very first area! He was also the one that told me it would be alright and I wouldn't die as a missionary! It is just crazy to see the generation of missionaries that were my friends slowly go home! Time goes by fast I guess!
9. Our branch mission leader took us out for dinner then took us frog gigging, or frog fishing. So he had a huge head lamp and a spear and would just stab these huge bull frogs. He ended up getting 14 and eating them all. Frog isn't the best but the people love them! It was an interesting experience and when we were leaving they told us we were criminals cause it ended up that it was a private pond so ya... a member helped us break the law...
10. I'm staying in Monroe for 6 more weeks. That means that I have spent 7 1/2 months in my 1st two areas! That is crazy! I'm excited though cause I think this will be a really good transfer coming up and I'll actually see some fruit form my labors!
Elder Taylor
